As a Treat is a personal fortnightly newsletter about the practice of hope and optimism.

The world is a garbage fire, and we should all be working to make life less garbage and on fire for other people.

That doesn’t mean we’re not allowed to feel good now and then.

My name’s Miranda Aguilar. I’m a writer and a person who finds it difficult to not fall into abject despair, anxiety and cynicism. Maybe it’s mental illness // maybe it’s the state of the world right now! If you’re reading this, you probably sometimes feel the same way.

As A Treat is a momentary escape from everyday life where I’m meant to write about something that makes me happy/hopeful/grateful at the moment. Because I am bad at it, it’s often a meditation on my anxieties of the moment and how I move through them. It updates whenever I feel like it, but at the moment, it’s coming out on a fortnightly basis on Gay Friday (a.k.a. Thursday mornings AEST).

Hope is a practice, and I hope this newsletter will help me get better at it.

If you like my writing and what to see the work I put more effort into, you can also check out my website at mirandaaguilar.com.
